Founded in 2018 in Perth, Australia, Cash Only Clothing emerged from the creative minds of Garth Mariano and Matt Evans, the same founders behind respected Perth skate brands Butter Goods and Lo-Fi. What began as a humble skate distribution company evolved into a unique apparel and skate goods label dedicated to preserving the raw energy and spirit of skate culture from the ’90s — an era before smartphones, social media and digital transactions dominated everyday life.

The name “Cash Only” itself captures this old-school ethos. It’s a nod to the days when independent skate shops only accepted cash payments — a time associated with authenticity, underground scenes, and a DIY lifestyle that many skaters today look back on with nostalgia. Marshaling influences from ’90s hip-hop, VHS skate videos, cult films and streetwear aesthetics of that decade, Cash Only channels cultural signifiers that defined skate style long before the internet era.

Unlike mass-market streetwear labels, Cash Only has maintained a grassroots identity rooted in skateboarding itself. The founders deliberately shaped the brand to reflect a lifestyle more than a trend — one grounded in skating, filming, and creative expression. Their collections often feature bold graphics, oversized fits, baggy denim, cargo pants, heavyweight hoodies, graphic tees and accessories designed to be worn on and off the board.

While the brand’s apparel quickly gained attention for its look and quality, Cash Only also strengthened its credibility by producing skate videos and supporting riders who embody their aesthetic. Long sequences shot on analogue formats like VX1000 — drenched in gritty street lines, saggy pants, and layered visuals — became an extension of the brand’s ethos. 

Cash Only’s influence has grown beyond Australia, earning a following in Europe, North America and Japan. Retailers from indie skate shops to streetwear boutiques now carry the label, allowing fans worldwide to connect with its unapologetically authentic take on skate style.
